Celebrating Learning Disability Week 2024!

Updated: Jun 18

Learning Disability Week is an annual celebration the third week of June that shines a spotlight on individuals with learning disabilities. This year, Learning Disability Week runs from Monday the 17th of June 2024 to Sunday the 23rd of June 2024. The week is dedicated to raising awareness, promoting understanding, and advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with learning disabilities.

This year's theme is "Do you see me?" which is all about being seen, heard, and valued.

What You Can Do

How to Get Involved

  1. Educate Yourself and Others: Take the time to learn about different learning disabilities and share this knowledge with your community. Social posts, websites, and other online resources can be great starting points.

  2. Participate in Events: Many organisations host events such as fundraisers, webinars, workshops, and community gatherings. Participating in these events can be a great way to show support. For example, we have our Summer Fete on Saturday the 6th July, raising funds for our charity and those that we support!

  3. Advocate for Change: Use your voice to advocate for inclusive policies in schools, workplaces, and public spaces. Writing to local representatives or participating in advocacy groups can make a difference.

  4. Support Local Organisations: Consider donating to or volunteering with organisations that support individuals with learning disabilities. Your contributions can help provide essential services and resources. If you'd like to support us, you can donate here or support our fundraising events here.

  5. Celebrate Achievements: Highlight and celebrate the achievements of individuals with learning disabilities in your community. Recognising their successes fosters a positive and inclusive environment. For example, Tory (below) who lives in our Residential Services, was recently awarded these certificates as a student at Made-Well for demonstrating the ability of safety and also for being able to support with hygiene and cleaning when helping to clean out animal enclosures.
