What Is Supported Living?

Supported Living is a service that enables individuals to live as independently as possible in the comfort of their own homes. Supported Living is designed to provide the person supported (or their person of best interest) with choice and control in matters of their personal living. This might include larger matters such as: where the person would like to live, control of their rent, the responsibility of their own tenancy and bills, financial decisions, and choices of the like. Whilst also supporting them with day to day choices.

The purpose and intentions of Supported Living are:

  • To support the individual to live as independently as possible.

  • To achieve choice and control in all matters that may affect their personal life.

  • To develop independent and personal skills

  • To empower the individual towards personal growth and achievement

  • To achieve flexibility and freedom in everyday life

  • To allow the individual to fully exercise their rights and responsibilities

  • To support the individual to safely be a part of their community

  • To help the individual to find a place they can call home

  • To support an individual to feel as comfortable as possible in their own home

Supported Living Process

Below is an example of the process that you may go through in finding a new home in one of our Supported Living services.

Step 1

Get in contact with either one of our Supported Living registered area managers Lee Betterman or Tracey Found to discuss your interest.

Step 2

Your social worker will arrange another meeting with us to discuss our vacancies, to arrange initial assessment and other details to figure out what the best home for you may be. If we have vacancies in the properties of your interest we will arrange viewings, if we don't you may get put on to a waiting list until we do have a space.

Step 3

You will come and have a viewing at the property or properties that you are interested in to see where you may like to live. We will show you around the property and answer any questions you may have.

Step 4

Once you have found a home you would like to move into your social worker will begin to sort out funding arrangements.

Step 5

The next step would be to connect with our partnered housing providers to sort out your tenancy agreements.

Step 6

Set a move in date and start your journey in your new home!

Supported Living Success Stories

Nicole's Achievement!

In October, Nicole, one of the people we support at Glen Tor, attended 3 Oliver McGowan training sessions in Exeter held by Living Options, Devon.

Nicole successfully completed the training, and she is now an accredited Oliver McGowan trainer. A trainer by experience. Well done, Nicole, all the housemates and staff at are very pleased for you and you should be very proud of your achievement.
